Need of Basic Electronics Lab in Civil Engineering Syllabus
First of all i am a student of Civil Engineering pursuing my B.Tech Degree under Maulana Abul Kalam Azad University of Technology, West Bengal in shortly known as MAKAUT. The University has recently updated their syllabus into new format including adding many unknown subjects which were not included in our previous batch syllabus. They Have added a Lab subject named Basic Electronics in our 3rd semester.
As a Civil 2nd year student i wondered , "What is the need of this lab subject in civil engineering?".As we know that from 2nd Year Of B.Tech, we only study the subjects which are related to our stream. So i have started searching what is the need of this lab in Civil Engineering?. So after reading many blogs, surfing websites and asking proffesors i have got my answer.
I am not trying to make it up, but if we think or rather you look around, ‘things are getting automated’. Now automation mainly consists of a major engineering — electronics. This Electronic engineering is actually embedded into Civil Engineering and when these two major stream collaborate a new major stream is formed “CIVIONICS”.
Civionics has many applications, but the major applications are –
· Structural Health Monitoring (SHM)
· Telemetry
· Remote Sensing to observe area from much bigger and better perspective
· Accelerometer
· Fibre Bragg Grating
· Cellular Confinement
· Wireless Sensor Network
· Deformation Monitoring & Automatic Deformation Monitoring
· Metrology
. Computer Aided Design of Buildings
. Usage of sensor to measure stress on high profile buildings and suspension bridges
